Health & Safety Essentials
The health, safety and wellbeing of all our climbers is our number one priority. We are proud to offer our adventure to so many different people, however some factors, including pregnancy and age, may affect your ability to climb. Prior to your Climb, you will be asked to complete an online Story Bridge Adventure Climb Declaration form which will be sent to all bookers via email. The booking contact should then forward this link to all Climbers within their booking. Please be honest about your health so we can ensure your wellbeing is not at risk. - Fitness Requirements: Climbers need a general level of health and fitness to climb stairs independently. It’s essential for safety and enjoyment.
- To take part in the climb, you will need to have a general level of fitness and able to climb independently in all weather conditions. You climb up 120 scaffold stairs and then you will ascend approximately 544 stairs at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the summit of the Climb before descending approximately 544 steps on the bridge and another 120 scaffold stairs to complete the journey.
- Pregnancy & Age: If you’re under 20 weeks pregnant or 75 years or older, we recommend a fitness certificate from your GP, completed within the last three months.
- Alcohol: A blood alcohol reading below 0.05% is required.
Conditions Requiring prior notice to Story Bridge Adventure Climb management:

- Heart or cardiovascular conditions (including high or low blood pressure)
- Respiratory conditions
- Visual or hearing impairments
- Epilepsy, neurological, sleep, kidney, or gastrointestinal conditions
- Back, Limb or Joint Injuries.
- Limb absence or limb difference
- Diabetes
- Vertigo, dizziness or loss of balance
- Surgery, from which you’re still recovering
- Chronic illness
- Allergies requiring an action plan and EpiPen
Safety and Comfort:
- Top-Quality Equipment: Full-body harnesses and rigorous safety protocols ensure a secure experience.
- Engaging Climb Leaders: Trained to provide a mix of historical facts, humour, and personal stories, making the climb both educational and entertaining.
- Inclusivity: Accessible to a wide range of ages (from 6 years old) and fitness levels, including those with mild disabilities.
Climbing with Children
- Climbers must be at least 6 years of age or older
- Climbers must be at least 1.1 metres in height
- Children aged 6-9 require a 1:1 ratio with an adult; those aged 10-16 require a 3:1 ratio.
- Ensuring that children have the necessary fitness and can climb stairs independently.
Fear of Heights
- The team is experienced in helping climbers overcome their fear of heights, ensuring a supportive and encouraging environment. [Refer to Face your Fear page]
Weather Conditions
- Climbs operate in all weather conditions except extreme weather such as electrical storms, hail or high winds. Rain gear is provided, and the decision to proceed is at Story Bridge Adventure Climb’s discretion.
- Get your climbers ready and start your journey to the Story Bridge Adventure Climb. If there is going to be a change to your scheduled climb our Guest Relations team will notify you in advance
What to Wear and Bring
- Clothing: Comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing, worn under a provided climb suit.
- Shoes: Fully enclosed, rubber-soled shoes (running, sport, or hiking shoes).
- Personal Belongings: No loose items allowed on the climb. No phones, watches, wallets, hair clips and/or bracelets/jewellery are permitted on the climb. Secure lockers are provided for personal items.
- If wet weather is expected, please bring a change of clothes for after the claimb
Preparation Tips
- Arrival: Arrive at least 20 minutes before your climb.
- Health: Eat and hydrate well before climbing.
